Dr. David W. Eggleston Wins the American College of Prosthodontists Region 5 Private Practice Award

Honors Presented at ACP Annual Awards & President's Dinner

LAS VEGAS—The American College of Prosthodontists, through its awards program, formally recognizes individuals whose contributions to the specialty or to the College are outstanding and substantial. These individuals were recognized on Friday, Oct. 11 during the Annual Session 2013 Annual Awards and President's Dinner held in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace. More than 1,200 dental professionals attended, including prosthodontists and dental technicians.

The ACP is proud to announce the following recipient:

Region 5 Private Practice Award

Dr. David W. Eggleston is a private practitioner in Newport Beach, California. He is currently a member of the Board of Councilors at the Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC, and President of the Academy of Prosthodontics Foundation.

Previous positions include: President of the American Board of Prosthodontics, President of the American College of Prosthodontists, President of the Academy of Prosthodontics, President of the Pacific Coast Society for Prosthodontics, President of the ACP Education Foundation, Chair of the California Dental Association Council on Dental Research and Developments, Section Editor for the Journal of Prosthodontics, member of the ADA Council on Dental Research, Chair of the American College of Prosthodontists Peer Review Committee, Chair of the Dentistry Associates Board of Directors at the Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC, a consultant for the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs, and member of the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics.

Honorary Fellowships include the American College of Dentists, the Academy of Dentistry International, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the International College of Prosthodontists, the International College of Dentists, and the OKU Honorary Dental Fraternity. Dr. Eggleston is recipient of the American College of Prosthodontist Distinguished Service Award, the American College of Prosthodontists Dan Gordon Memorial Award, and the Hoag Hospital Vin Jorgensen Award.

Created in 2013, the Private Practice Award may be given annually to up to five individual prosthodontists (one per ACP Region) who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the specialty of prosthodontics, prosthodontic practice, or the public’s understanding of the role that the prosthodontist in private practice plays in advancing the patient’s quality of life; as well as exemplifying collegiality and cross discipline outreach, and/or exemplary community service.

Eligibility is limited to ACP prosthodontist members who are in primarily full time traditional private practice (solo or group), excluding institutional and multisite corporate practices, and are from five U.S. ACP Regions, excluding military and international ACP Regions.

The award is a lifetime award and an individual may receive it only once. Individuals may nominate themselves or be nominated by others; every nomination must be accompanied by three letters of recommendation from the nominating region including one prosthodontist ACP member peer, one referring dentist, and one community/dental organization/leader, lab technician or patient.

Prosthodontists are specialized dentists with advanced training in oral health issues, who are committed to improving patient outcomes. From implants, crowns, veneers and tooth whitening, to full-mouth reconstruction, prosthodontists specialize in digital dentistry and CAD/CAM solutions.

The ACP is the only prosthodontic specialty organization whose membership is based solely on education credentials. ACP members must be in or have completed an ADA-accredited advanced education program in prosthodontics.
